The team at Haroys Limited (Haroys) are delighted to announce that we have completed the purchase of K J Howells and Son (KJH), a family owned, father and son partnership based at Cobbs Quay, Poole. KJH have been providing bespoke carpentry services and the supply of fine quality teak products to the yachting and marine community since 1987.
The management team of Haroys are six local entrepreneurs who met through our love of rugby at a local rugby club, and between us we have a broad range of commercial and professional skills. We decided to use our business experience to identify investment opportunities in local companies seeking a buyer. Our criteria are that the companies must specialise in producing fine quality products, employ local craftsmen and provide services to this area. Our first acquisition was Haroys, which we purchased in 2015, and the recent opportunity to invest in KJH is a perfect fit with our commitment to the local community and our shared business goals and ethics.
Haroys was established in 1976, and is a Poole based manufacturer of fine quality joinery, kitchens, windows, staircases and solid wood furniture. The company specialises in manufacturing a wide range of quality products which are handmade by our master craftsmen from superb quality solid woods, locally supplied from certified sustainable sources.
We at Haroys are committed to the local community, not only sourcing the majority of our raw materials from local suppliers, but also running an active apprenticeship programme to ensure that the superb skills of our workforce are passed on to the current and future generations.
When the founder of KJH, Ken Howells, decided to retire, the opportunity to buy the company represented an ideal opportunity for Haroys to expand our product and customer base, whilst ensuring that the skills of a master marine craftsman are not lost.
The skill sets and products of both companies are complementary, as is our commitment to the local community, and to the preservation and development of superb quality craftmanship. Working together we will ensure that we continue to supply Poole, Dorset and the UK with fine quality joinery and marine products.
